Barnside Road Pop Sparkling Hop Water

NO ALCOHOL BEVERAGE | SOUTH DELTA, BC

Road Pop is Barnside Brewing’s entry into the growing market for no-alcohol beverages. The sparkling hop-based drink with hints of grapefruit and citrus offers a refreshing alternative for drinkers craving a hop taste without the alcohol.

Until the summer of 2023 when it launched Road Pop, its first zero-alcohol product, Barnside Brewing Co. was known for the beers it brewed from local ingredients at its farm-based brewery. Road Pop, a hop-based, zero-calorie, gluten-free beverage won β€œOutstanding New Product” at β€œFrom the Ground Up”, a BC industry tradeshow. The new product stays true to the brewery’s roots, using ingredients grown on Barnside’s Ladner, BC farm.

THE ASK

Barnside and Indalma have worked together on every launch of a new beer since the brewery first opened in 2020. This project presented a different challenge, as the design team needed to create a visual identity for Road Pop that sat outside of the usual Barnside brand, while still relating it to the parent brand. The no-alcohol beverage would be available in grocery and liquor stores, as well as the farm tasting room, and require a label and marketing collateral that would attract attention and shelf space in the highly competitive environment of grocery stores.

THE WORK

Road Pop targets an audience of drinkers who are looking to moderate their alcohol intake, whether for lifestyle reasons or because they are driving, and who are looking for an on-trend, delicious, and adult-oriented alternative to an alcoholic beverage.

After discussion with the client, we created a moodboard with images, suggested colour palettes and sketches. We stayed true to the locally crafted identity and storytelling voice of the parent brand, knowing that we wanted to springboard off Barnside’s brand equity, and that no-alcohol drinkers want to feel like they’re holding an adult-oriented, craft beer-like product in their hands. But for this product, we chose a distinct font and label design that would differentiate the drink from Barnside’s usual lineup.

The Road Pop label has a hazy summer feel and a cool, go-anywhere vibe that conjures up the freedom of hitting the open road with no particular destination in mind. The artistry and cool greens of the layered landscape allowed our team to create some beautiful marketing collateral and apparel that will add to the brand’s appeal, including a tablecloth for tastings, shelf talkers and point-of-sale displays.

Road Pop was yet another successful collaboration between Indalma and a creative client who has been savvy about building a unique brand with local appeal, and who is looking to meet their customers’ evolving needs with new products and events.
