This farm-based craft brewery uses ingredients grown in their own fields to brew their fresh-tasting brand.
Barnside Brewing Co. is a farm-based, craft brewery founded by four, multi-generational farm families in Ladner, BC. The destination brewery offers an authentic “field to glass” experience with an onsite tasting room overlooking the farm’s hop yards, grain and cranberry fields. The farm-fresh beer brand is distributed in liquor stores across BC, and attracts a steady stream of visitors as part of the growing South-of-the-Fraser Ale Trail.
THE ASK
Barnside came to us in the early stages of their development, with a logo and a partially developed brand book. They were looking for a design partner who would work alongside them to help them develop their brand. The marketing-savvy owners knew that they had a rich origin story, and they wanted a nostalgic farm feel across all of their products and in their tasting room.
THE WORK
From the start, our team provided a sounding board for the owners as they built their operation, and developed a warm, folksy voice for their brand. We created buyer personas for their various target markets, and worked to develop a solid foundation of story, style, and colour palette so that we had brand consistency from the tasting room to each new beer release. Custom illustrations on bottle and can labels helped to create the nostalgia-infused feel the owners were looking for.
Since the brand and brewery’s successful launch, our team has continued to work with Barnside designing packaging (38 labels and counting!), retail displays and apparel. It’s a project that we’re proud of – as both designers and local craft beer drinkers!
