Barnside Brewing is a South Delta farm-based, craft brewery that will open in the fall of 2019. Founded by four, multi-generational farm families in Ladner, BC, the brewery will offer a range of craft beers brewed from ingredients grown in Barnside’s own fields. The destination brewery will offer a complete craft beer experience – in a way that most breweries can’t – with an onsite tasting room overlooking the farm’s hop yards and cranberry fields.
A beer brand founded on nostalgia and pride
Indalma was excited to work with the savvy team at Barnside – and not just for the tastings! It was an opportunity to help them brand their product from the ground up (literally, in the case of this farm-based brewery).
Barnside came to us with a logo and a partially developed brand book. The brand had a rich origin story based in the farmers who first worked the land, and the owners knew that they wanted a nostalgic farm feel across their products and in their tasting room.
Our team created buyer personas, and provided a sounding board for the owners as they developed a warm, folksy brand voice and key marketing statements. Knowing that we were going to help Barnside develop everything from brewery signage and menus, to bottle labels and vehicle graphics, we worked to develop a solid foundation of story, style, and colour palette, so that each time we created something, whether it was for the interior of the tasting room, or an illustration for a growler, it was consistent with the brand we had developed.
Brewery design as fresh as the product itself
Indalma came to the project with a local perspective and no preconceptions – we were free to develop something as fresh as the product itself – and we were delighted to find that Barnside had the same perfectionist approach to quality as we did. At the end of the day, we knew we’d developed the right options for the brand, because we’d carefully examined all of the alternatives!
After a year of developing their brand, we were excited to see their doors open to the public! It’s a project we’re proud of as both locals and designers.
